Frequently Asked Questions

  • I predominantly do talk therapy aka one-on-one conversation with a focus on questions, reflections, and sitting in silences together. During our process together I will add a dash of somatic practice where desired/relevant. For me, somatics allows an opportunity to widen the gap between noticing and rationalizing. The aim of the space between is to hold and honour your feelings. Which can be a scary thing if you’ve never done it before. Learning to be with sensations is like training a muscle. It’s hard to sit with heavy unprocessed emotions immediately, just like it’s hard to lift heavy weights your first time in a gym. It can be easier to practice with pleasant, beautiful, and joyful moments. In trying to access what pleasure, care, and joy feel like in your body is proof that you can feel, maybe it’s been awhile since you have accessed the path to how and where.

  • As I’m starting to build my counselling practice I’m prioritizing folks who live in so called BC. However, if you live somewhere else in Canada, please still reach out at this time to see if working together right now aligns.

  • I require 24 hours notice for any cancellations or changes to your appointment please. 50% of the session rate is required for No-show appointments, payable on or before the next scheduled session.

If you need to make changes to your appointment, please reach out to me directly.

  • Yes - It’s vital to me to help increase equitable access to therapy. As such, I prioritize BIPOC, LGBTQ+, as well as other self-identified marginalized and vulnerable group clients. Please reach out directly to me to request a sliding scale rate if the current rate is a barrier for you.

  • The first counselling session is 80 minutes. This extended session gives us an opportunity to get a greater sense of each other and to allow space for me to get to know you, your story, and how it relates to your current situation.

Continuing sessions are 60 minutes, although some sessions may be longer or shorter depending on your needs and preferences if arranged in advance.

  • That will depend on your benefit plan. Some employee benefit plans cover Registered Professional Counsellors. Check with your HR department or extended health carrier to be sure; it’s also good to know what your yearly maximum is so that you can plan accordingly.
